How to Choose the Perfect Coat for Your Body Shape

A coat is something you wear almost every day for months, so it should flatter you. The good news: a few simple rules help you find the right cut for your figure.

Petite

Choose coats that end just above or at the knee, so they do not overwhelm your frame. Single-breasted styles and slim lapels keep the look light. A belted waist adds shape without adding volume.

Tall

You can carry long, dramatic coats beautifully. Maxi wool coats, oversized cuts and wide lapels all work well. Play with volume and length.

Curvy or hourglass

Show off your waist with belted wrap coats or tailored styles that nip in at the middle. Avoid boxy shapes that hide your curves.

Pear shape

Draw attention upward with interesting collars, lapels or shoulder details. A-line coats that flare slightly from the waist balance your silhouette.

Straight or athletic

Create shape with belts, peplum details or double-breasted styles. Textured fabrics like tweed and teddy also add depth.

One tip for everyone

Always try your coat on over a jumper. It should close comfortably without pulling at the buttons, and your arms should move freely. Find your new favourite in our Women's Coats & Jackets collection.
